Back Cover Text:
GAME WARDEN JOE PICKETT FIGHTS FOR LIFE AS HIS DAUGHTERS TRY TO UNCOVER
WHO SHOT AND LEFT HIM FOR DEAD IN THIS RIVETING NEW NOVEL FROM
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR C. J. BOX.

Marybeth Pickett gets the call she has always dreaded: Her husband, Joe, is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.

Joe was found in his pickup at Antler Creek Junction, a crossroads connecting three ranches.  Each road leading to a dangerous family.  Each family with a different bone to pick with the local game warden.  Marybeth and the new sheriff assume that Joe was ambushed by one of the families, but they have no idea which one, since Joe didn't say where he was going or why.

With Joe unconscious and fighting for his life with Marybeth at his side, Sheridan, April, and Lucy split up and investigate each of the families to uncover the truth of what happened to their father, before it's too late.

"The Crossroads proves why C. J. Box owns the modern American frontier.  Joe Pickett is down but not out - and every page cuts deeper than the last.  Loyalty, justice, and survival collide in a story that hits with the force of a .30-06 round across the Wyoming plains."
- JACK CARR, #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF CRY HAVOC

C. J. BOX is the author of twenty-six Joe Pickett novels, eight stand-alone novels, and a story collection.  He has won the Edgar, Anthony, Macavity, Gumshoe, and two Barry awards, as well as the French Prix Calibre .38, the Western Heritage Award for Literature, and two Spur Awards.  An avid outdoorsman, Box has hunted, fished hiked, ridden, and skied throughout Wyoming and the Mountain West.  He has been executive producer on television series based on his books, including ABC TV's Big Sky and Joe Pickett on Paramount+.

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.

See my goodreads icon goodreads page. I almost never do reviews, but I use this site to catalogue books.
See my librarything icon librarything page. I use this site to catalogue books and it has more details on books than goodreads does.
